My Experience
I teach piano, cello, and violin, and have taught throughout New York City and New England for over 15 years. I really enjoy getting to know my students, guiding their artistic development, and helping them grow and connect with others through music.
My teaching draws upon in-depth study of the Dounis method—which combines relaxed physical technique with personal expression—alongside readings in psychology and the learning process, as well as my experience as a performer, arranger, and composer.
As a cellist, I’ve performed at concert venues across the country, played with Boston Ballet, and appeared on Sirius Radio and MTV. As a composer, I’ve written a number of commissioned works, as well as music for my own performances, and recently released a recording of original music: Dream Loop Spells. I’ve also recorded with a variety of bands and songwriters.
Teaching Philosophy
I value creating a warm, friendly environment in lessons, so that students feel comfortable expressing themselves, asking questions, and exploring music openly.
My goal is for my students to feel encouraged and confident, and be able to express themselves through their music.
I also emphasize a clear, analytical learning process, musicality, and a creative approach to music and learning. I want to ensure that my students’ practice time is rewarding, comprehensible, and enjoyable, and that it’s clearly directed toward their individual goals.
My Approach to Lessons
Each lesson is tailored to the individual student—their personality, musical experiences, goals, and approach to learning.
Lessons focus on:
The learning process – clear, step-by-step practice strategies that encourage independent learning.
Natural physical technique – relaxed playing that supports musical expression and long-term comfort.
Musical expression – conveying emotions, character, and ideas through music.
Music theory – building fluency in music reading, analysis, harmony, and related concepts, introduced in an integrated, musical way.
Creativity – exercises in musical interpretation, composition, and improvisation.
In each lesson, I provide clear guidance on what to practice and how to approach practicing, so that the student knows exactly where to put their focus during the week and how to make steady, consistent progress.
Lessons balance quality repertoire with technical exercises, creative assignments, and music theory, adjusted to the needs and goals of each student.

Lessons for Kids and Adults
My students vary widely in age, level, background, and personality, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching.
Kids – I’ve taught many children over the years, some as young as 3 or 4. I work with their natural creativity and enjoyment of play to make learning an instrument a fun and imaginative experience.
When a kid’s boundless energy is focused through music, the results are amazing.

Adults – Adults often approach learning an instrument with a specific vision in mind, and I build a plan around what they most want to play, orienting our lessons toward those musical goals. In adult lessons, we take a deep dive into the learning process, making practice time efficient, rewarding, and enjoyable.

Regardless of age or learning approach, learning an instrument is a deeply enriching and enjoyable experience—one that can last a lifetime.
